Low Temperature Impact Properties
Low-temperature
impact toughness is one of the principal requirements of ISO 9330-3.
- Charpy V-notch impact testing is
specified.
- Impact testing is performed at
designated low temperatures according to the grade.
- Longitudinal test pieces are
specified as the standard orientation.
- Transverse impact test pieces may
be used by agreement.
- The standard specifies minimum
average impact values based on three test pieces.
- Individual values are subject to
the minimum limits specified by the standard.
Manufacturing Process
ISO
9330-3 tubes are produced by electric resistance welding or induction welding.
Typical
manufacturing steps include:
- Steelmaking and controlled chemical
composition.
- Production of strip or plate
feedstock.
- Forming into circular tubular
shape.
- Electric resistance or induction
welding.
- Heat treatment according to grade.
- Sizing and finishing.
- Non-destructive and mechanical
testing.
- Cutting to specified lengths.
- Final inspection.
The
steels intended for tubes covered by the standard are fully killed steels.
Manufacturing Conditions
Depending
on the grade and ordered condition, tubes may be supplied as:
- Hot-finished tubes.
- Cold-finished tubes.
- Normalized tubes.
- Quenched and tempered tubes.
- ERW tubes.
- Induction welded tubes.
The
applicable heat-treatment condition is dependent on the grade requirements.
Heat Treatment
ISO
9330-3 includes heat-treatment conditions such as:
- Normalizing (N).
- Quenching and tempering (Q + T).
The
required condition depends on the individual steel grade and
mechanical-property requirements.
Dimensions and Tolerances
The
standard specifies requirements for outside diameter, wall thickness, length
and mass.
- Outside diameters and wall
thicknesses are selected from the dimensional ranges of ISO 4200 and ISO
1129.
- Outside diameter tolerance: ±0.75%,
with a minimum of ±0.35 mm.
- Wall thickness tolerance: ±10%,
with a minimum of ±0.20 mm.
- Tubes may be supplied in random
lengths or specified exact lengths according to the order.
Surface Condition
The tubes
are supplied with suitable internal and external surface conditions.
- Surfaces should be suitable for
inspection.
- Small imperfections may be
permitted where the wall thickness remains within the specified tolerance.
- Larger surface imperfections may be
dressed where permitted, provided the finished wall thickness remains
within the required limits.
- Weld areas are subject to the
applicable inspection requirements.
