Grade 5 titanium is one of the most commonly used alloys in titanium industry, accounting for 50% of the world titanium consumption. Also known as Ti-6Al-4V (or ti6-4), this name refers to its main chemical composition of 90% titanium, 6% aluminum, 4% vanadium, 0.25% (maximum) iron and 0.2% (maximum) oxygen. It has almost the same high corrosion resistance as pure titanium, but has better strength, low elastic modulus, good weldability and heat treatment. The addition of aluminum and vanadium improves the hardness and physical and mechanical properties of the alloy.
